About Joliet

The ExxonMobil Joliet Refinery is located about 40 miles southwest of Chicago in Channahon, Illinois. Residents of the area have access to many local activities, from shopping, dining and museums, to golf courses, parks, trails and auto racing events. Add to these the many opportunities the Chicago metropolitan area, or “Chicagoland,” has to offer, the Joliet Refinery makes a desirable work location.

The Joliet Refinery is the second newest refinery in the United States and celebrated its 50th year in 2022. As the center of ExxonMobil’s Midwest integrated operations, it include pipelines, lubes production, distribution and fuels marketing. The refinery is one of the most energy efficient in the Unites States and processes nearly 250,000 barrels of crude per day into gasoline, ultra-low sulfur diesel, asphalt and other products.

What role you will play in our team

• This position is for candidates with an Instrumentation background to apply their knowledge and experience working as an Instrument Technician at the Joliet Refinery in Illinois. 
• As an Instrument Technician at the Joliet Refinery you will be a vital team member responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining our instrumentation systems that aid in the operation of the Joliet Refinery.

What you will do

• Instrument Technicians troubleshoot, repair, remove, and install electronic controllers, transmitters, control valves, regulators, and various other electronic/pneumatic devices.
• Troubleshoot equipment using basic electrical theory knowledge.

About you

Skills and Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age
• Possess valid drivers’ license
• High School Graduate or Equivalent
• Currently possess or be able to qualify for a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
• Able and willing to work shift work, weekends, holidays, and overtime (full time positions)
• Able and willing to work outside in all weather conditions
• Able and willing to work at heights above 25 feet"
• High School Graduate or Equivalent
• Equivalent work experience

Preferred Qualifications / Experience

• Associates Degree in Applied Science in Instrumentation/Electrical studies
• A minimum of 5 years mechanical experience or technical training preferred
• Strong analytical and communication skills
• Mechanical/maintenance experience in a refinery, chemical plant or other manufacturing plant.
• Experience in troubleshooting/repair all types of instrumentation equipment
• Possess knowledge and the ability to use test equipment (multimeters, field communicators, process calibrating devices, etc.)
• Strong troubleshooting and repair skills
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Suite tools

• The expected hourly rate for this position is $40.34/Hr - $54.39/Hr. Individual pay will be determined based on various factors, which may include skills, abilities, qualifications, work experience, and education. 
• Pension Plan: Enrollment is automatic and at no cost to you. The basic benefit is a monthly annuity to be paid to you in retirement for the rest of your life. 
• Savings Plan: You can contribute between 6% and 20% of your pay and are encouraged to enroll right away. If you contribute at least 6% to your savings plan, the Company will contribute a 7% match.
