These websites are crucial to helping New Yorkers make informed voting decisions by providing up-to-date election and candidate information that is often unavailable elsewhere.

As part of the Marketing and Digital Communications team, the Web Content Editor will work closely with content strategists, designers, and developers to ensure seamless, accessible, and engaging online experiences for millions of residents across NYC’s five boroughs. If you’re passionate about civic engagement and digital communications—and skilled in content creation, SEO, and accessibility—this role offers the chance to make a direct civic impact.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain and manage content across all CFB and NYC Votes web platforms
  • Oversee the online Voter Guide to ensure timely and accurate updates for each election cycle
  • Write and edit public-facing content using plain, clear language tailored to multilingual and diverse audiences
  • Collaborate on improving web design, accessibility (including WCAG compliance), and UI/UX strategy
  • Leverage SEO and analytics tools to evaluate content performance and increase visibility
  • Coordinate with internal departments and external partners to align website content with strategic communication goals

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge:

  • Strong grasp of content strategy, structured content, and digital communication practices
  • Knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive digital design
  • Familiarity with SEO strategies and content analytics
  • Understanding of UI/UX principles and user-centered content development

Abilities:

  • Maintain and update content across multiple web platforms
  • Write for multilingual and varied audiences using accessible language
  • Ensure Voter Guide updates are timely and accurate for each election cycle
  • Work effectively with cross-functional teams including design, tech, and communications
  • Identify and correct content errors with sharp attention to detail

Skills:

  • Excellent written communication and editing capabilities
  • Hands-on experience with CMS platforms (preferably Umbraco or WordPress)
  • Proficient with SEO tools and web analytics (e.g., Google Analytics)
  • Experience conducting accessibility audits and implementing WCAG standards
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS for minor web edits
  • Strong time management and organizational skills

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, digital media, marketing, or related field
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in digital content or website management
  • Experience working with metadata, structured content, and content tagging
  • Exposure to NYC government operations or civic tech initiatives is a plus

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by at least 12 credits in a related field, and one year of satisfactory, full-time related experience; OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent with five years of qualifying experience; OR
  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to the above

Additional Information:
The City of New York offers robust benefits including health, dental, and vision plans, tuition reimbursement, retirement savings options, and loan forgiveness eligibility. The CFB supports flexible and hybrid work arrangements, career development, leadership training, wellness programs, and an inclusive workplace culture.

Residency in New York City is typically required within 90 days of appointment, with some flexibility depending on tenure and agency policy.

The NYC Campaign Finance Board is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We are committed to diversity and encourage applications from individuals of all backgrounds. If you need a reasonable accommodation during the application process, please contact access@nyccfb.info or (212) 409-1800.
