Job Description

Introduction to the job

We are a part of ASML, located in beautiful San Diego. ASML provides chipmakers like Intel, Samsung, TSMC, Global Foundries and others with everything they need - hardware, software and services - to mass produce patterns on silicon, helping to increase the value and lower the cost of a semiconductor chip. Our key technology is the lithography system, which brings together high-tech hardware and advanced software to control the chip manufacturing process down to the picometer. Our vision is a world in which semiconductor technology is everywhere and helps to tackle society’s toughest challenges.

Job Mission

We are presenting you with a unique and exciting opportunity to join a dynamic and innovative Source Research team, focused on conceiving and demonstrating the technologies required for next generations of high-power Laser Produced Plasma Extreme Ultraviolet (LPP-EUV) light sources and DUV lasers. Our light sources rely on a wide range of unique and challenging technologies, ranging from laser light amplification and high-power optical systems to laser produced plasma for EUV generation, electro-optical signal detection and algorithm-based actuation for process control. We invite you to bring your passion, knowledge, and expertise in applied physics, plasmas, metrology, optics, controls, lasers, and experiment design to advance these technologies.

Role and Responsibilities

Guide the development of high-level architecture definitions for laser design, including discharge type, gas flow, optical design and other areas relevant to the lasers

Lead product pathfinding at low technical readiness through to system-level validation

Create models of the system, both optical, gain, gas flow, etc., to identify areas for improvement and innovation

Identify and maintain bi-directional requirements between the lasers and other system functions both within Source Research as well as product teams

Identification of key scientific learning objectives and corresponding experimental design which will further the technological progress of the lasers

Demonstration of system-wide performance targets to meet the future technology roadmap

Develop and execute system and subsystem performance tests, analyze test results and extract actionable knowledge from sub-module to full-system levels

Troubleshoot laser and sub-system issues to enhance system performance.

Document learning and communicate knowledge to engineering and product development teams to guide product improvement and release of new product nodes

Work independently and in teams to deliver on a stated objective, whether it be the pursuit of new knowledge, the demonstration of a new capability, or the characterization of existing performance
