Responsibilities

The Patient Blood Management (PBM) APP will be directly involved in the expansion of the Mayo Clinic Anemia and Bloodless Medicine/Surgery Clinics, which have been established since 2019. Clinical responsibilities in this practice will include: evaluation of patients presenting with anemia prior to surgery, determination of causes of anemia, prescription of appropriate treatments, making appropriate referrals for those who may require additional diagnostic evaluations, performing follow-up evaluations for responses to treatment and optimization of Mayo Clinic patients for whom allogeneic blood products is not an option. Clinical responsibilities will include seeing patients in the outpatient clinic, both face-to-face and virtual consultations, and inpatient consultations for patients who are already hospitalized. The PBM APP may also be involved in other initiatives of the broader PBM program. Candidates must be willing to take initiative in expanding and improving novel clinical programs, which will include close communication with stakeholders from across the practice. The candidate must be fully committed to working as part of a multidisciplinary PBM team including RN coordinators and physician medical directors. The ideal candidate should have an intimate understanding of surgical workflows in the Mayo Clinic Rochester practice and a basic understanding of anemia management and transfusion practices.

Qualifications

Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current Minnesota RN and APRN license and certified as an ANP, ACNP or FNP. 

Or graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.

Must have BLS and ACLS certification. DEA registration will be required.
