Job Description

Occupational Summary:

Direct operational and personnel activities involved in establishing, promoting, and maintaining the safety and security of all students, faculty, and staff on campus and the Provincial House personnel, including the protection of property located within the boundaries of the total campus. Some evenings and weekends are required for special events.

Work Performed:

  1. Establish operational procedures in all areas of security, including but not limited to: crime prevention and reporting, parking regulations and enforcement, alcohol and substance abuse, building access, including residence halls, and fire prevention.
  2. Confer with administrators to formulate policies, determine the need for programs, and coordinate programs related to safety.
  3. Communicate with the University and ASC management personnel concerning security concerns.
  4. Conduct seminars, lectures, campus messages, training, and in-service sessions on various aspects of safety with students, faculty, staff, and ASC personnel as requested.
  5. Effectively coordinate with the Wichita Police Department in patrolling the total campus, investigating crime, notifying of local crime activities, and vehicle owner identification.
  6. Perform duties as daytime security officer.
  7. Schedule and supervise subcontracted security personnel to handle night and weekend assignments.
  8. Encourage, train, and supervise a student security cadet program.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  1. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a police officer, security officer, or investigator required.
  3. Firearms training required and met current licensing requirements.
  4. Proficiency in word-processing and spreadsheet software is preferred.
  5. Must possess a valid driver’s license and pass a motor vehicle check.
  6. Must have physical fitness and stamina: stand, walk, and/or run for extensive periods. Must be able to talk or hear.
  7. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  8. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, faculty, managers, students’ parents, or the general public.
  9. Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  10. Ability to maintain confidential information in a professional manner is required.
  11. College degree preferred. 
  12. Two (2) years of supervision and scheduling experience preferred.
