The Role 

The Coffee Buyer will be responsible for supporting various aspects of the coffee supply chain including but not limited to quality and sensory, green and roasted coffee buying, and partner account management. This role requires deep knowledge of coffee supply chains, sensory evaluation, and relationship management with producers and suppliers. They will have a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.

This role is hybrid, with 3 days/week on-site expected. This individual will report directly to the Director of Supply Chain.

What you'll do: 

  • Coffee Sourcing & Procurement
    • Qualify, taste, and purchase of direct trade specialty coffee from the best roasters and producers in the world
    • Identify and source high-quality coffee that aligns with our company's values and flavor profiles.
    • Negotiate contracts, pricing, and logistics with producers, importers, and cooperatives.
    • Stay updated on global coffee trends, harvest cycles, and market conditions.
  • Account Management
    • Serve as the primary contact for some key accounts, ensuring smooth communication and coffee supply.
    • Work closely with planning lead to communicate demand needs and supply risks to manage inventory levels to meet production needs efficiently.
    • Collaborate with the manufacturing team to align sourcing with production goals.
  • Coffee Quality & Sensory Evaluation
    • Lead cuppings and sensory analysis to evaluate coffee quality.
    • Maintain quality control throughout the supply chain, from green coffee evaluation to post-roast assessments.
    • Work closely with the team to optimize roast profiles and consistency.
    • Ensure Cometeer's sensory program continuously improves staying on pace with industry standards and consistently delivers the highest quality cup to customers
  • Other Tasks
    • Manage contracts, purchase orders, and logistics for coffee shipments.
    • Maintain accurate records of coffee purchases, quality scores, and inventory.
    • Collaborate with marketing and sales teams on storytelling and education about sourced coffees.

What we're looking for: 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in coffee buying, sourcing, or quality control.
  • Strong knowledge of coffee origins, processing methods, and market trends.
  • Experience with sensory evaluation, cupping protocols, and quality grading.
  • Experience sample roasting green coffee
  • Excellent negotiation, relationship management, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with inventory management, logistics, and supply chain coordination.
  • Q Grader certification (preferred but not required).
  • Passion for specialty coffee.
